Kudos to Warner Bros. for giving me the inspiration for this latest installment.
This morning on my desk I was greeted by a massive heavy box from WB and some company "Indie Printing". (Yeah, they're fucking cool bc they have the word Indie in their name. If you want yr printing needs to be met in an aloof and funky fashion, look no further than the laid-back, jean jacket-wearing, bespectacled twenty-somethings of Indie Printing).

Inside... bookmarks! Brilliant! Bookmarks advertising some guy I've never fucking heard of, and probably never will!
Basically, what they did was took a nationally-known bestselling author, glombed some up-and-coming musician (judging by his look and website, I'm guessing some piano-driven angsty emotional quasi-orchestral bullshit. Oh and he was on Dr. Phil, so he's got that going for him) onto the author's site, and now they're using that already-tenuous link to piggyback mr. piano man onto the back of author's book sales.

Imagined interior dialog of the person who loves this author (in this case, it's Dr. John Gray aka the Men/Mars, Women/Venus dude):
- Oh, Gray's latest book was superb. I couldn't put it down. I especially LOVED the part where he talked about different genders and planets etc. (not busting on the guy's concepts, just trying to infuse some comedy).... OH SHIT, what is this? The good doctor is recommending this artist to me? Who the fuck is he? William Joseph? Cool name. I especially like the black-and-white picture of him staring off-camera into the middle distance. He must be in deep thought, much like me when I consider my role in this world and the nature of the relationships around me as defined by Dr. Gray's outlook on the universe. So ALL I have to do is visit John's website, go into one of two specific areas on the site, then enter a promo code and I can download a song? And based on how much I love that song, I'm given a host of purchasing options for his entire album? THIS IS THE BEST THING THAT'S EVER HAPPENED TO ME MY LIFE IS EMPTY INSIDE
(end scene)
Seriously though, it's a bookmark aiming to loosely connect a musician to an author. I can see this failing miserably, but I am curious to see it in the future.
